JAMMING BOOTCAMP JUNE 16,2009 @ 9.30 AM

JAM BOOT CAMP on June 16th at 9:30 A.M. at Jennie D's for those who want to learn how to water bath can.(We live right next to Homestead Park---our side yard is across from the gazebo at the pond.)The free gooseberries are on the Baldwin Road side of our front yard. I don't have to be home when you come---so pick a gallon tomorrow, Saturday or Monday. Remove the stems and tips, wash and put in a bag in fridge to bring to the boot camp this Tuesday and bring a bag of sugar or can of sugar from your food storage--you won't use it all!

You can also pick the gooseberries for a pie or tart if you don't want to come to the Jam Boot Camp! I'll have enough jars for the first boot camp and will shop for the jarlids and pectin and divide the cost with those participating. I am guessing a dollar per person per batch since the fruit is free and I have some jars.We will water bath can the jam for a shelf-stable product.

ATTENTION!

Get a babysitter since canners, boiling water and pouring hot food products into jars isn't a child-friendly atmosphere. I canned at night aftertheir bedtime when the kids were very small.I also have a "sugar-free" strawberry jam recipe using Splenda for those interested in reducing sugar or on diabetic diets. It is also water bath canned for shelf-stability but needs canned in half-pint or 4 ounce jellyjars which I don't have a supply of. Call me to discuss recipe detailsand supplies if you're interested in the sugar-free/Splenda jam.
