Taryn's Cherry Bar Dessert

Here is the recipe for the Cherry Bar dessert I (Taryn) made for Tuesday
night. I had a few requests so I thought this would be the easiest
way to get it out there for everyone!

Cherry Bars

Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 cans (21 ounces each) cherry pie filling

GLAZE:
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 to 3 tablespoons milk

Directions
In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add
eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the
extracts. Combine flour and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture
just until combined.

Spread 3 cups batter into a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking
pan. Spread with pie filling. Drop the remaining batter by
teaspoonfuls over filling.

Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire
rack. Combine the glaze ingredients; drizzle over bars.

Yield: 5 dozen (depending on how large you cut them!)

A generous donation of "expensive" cheese blend

A generous donation of "expensive" cheese blend powder has come my
way. (Thanks Lori A.!)

It is enough and to share. I have divided it into two-cup portions
and will bring it to Church today. This is a fantastic and free food
storage opportunity for the first 20 people that want a sample.

The powder is similar to what comes in the Kraft macaroni and cheese
box, but with less scary ingredients and of a much higher quality.
You can use it with your food storage macaroni or make spreads/sauces,
cheesey potato casserole or soup, dips, ... I experimented and made
cheesey popcorn last night---yumbola!

Here are the reconstituting instructions---because I'm not going to
write it out 20 times:

Combine cheese blend powder with hot water. Stir together until
smooth and creamy.
Spread = 3/4 cup powder and 3/4 cup hot water for 1 cup spread
Sauce = 1 cup powder and 1/2 cup hot water for 1 cup sauce

Ingredients: whey, modified food-starch, cheddar cheese, pasteurized
milk, salt, annatto extract, cheese culture (enzymes), non-fat milk,
partially hydrogenated soybean oil, lactic acide, disodium phosphate,
and yellow dye 5 and 6.

1/4 cup serving containes 55 calories 1 gram fat, 2 grams protein, 8
grams carbohydrates and 18% calcium.

Yarn Group- 1st Thursday of each month!

Dear Sisters,
We are so excited about this new group. Here is the information and please let us know if you have any questions...

Yarn Group will be meeting the first Thursday of every month, starting December 2 at 8 PM at Lisa Rees' house. It will be a fun, low key night to come socialize with other knitters and crocheters! Bring a current project and knit or crochet in company. Bring a past project for others to admire if you'd like. Share techniques, fondle yarn, show off your work to people who appreciate it. There will be munchies! Get inspired by other yarnaholics! All skill levels welcome! Beginners wanting to learn should choose a smooth-textured yarn (avoid anything nubbly, furry, or novelty--they're hard to learn on) that inspires you, and then get the size needles or hook recommended on the label. Questions? Call or email Lisa R.
